Abstract :
This paper presents an excitation system for an induction generator. The induction generation used in a small power wind energy system operates with variable frequency, making possible to operate with maximum efficiency for variable wind speed. In order to make the system robust and cheap, the rotor is direct coupled to the generator that is operated at low speed. The inverter switches operate with a sinusoidal PWM strategy which reduces the number of switching by one-third when compared to the conventional PWM method
