Abstract
This paper covers a handoff protocol based upon that used in the IS-95 DS-CDMA standard. An investigation is performed into the use of power reduction for calls entering soft handoff in a CDMA cellular environment. An adaptive threshold algorithm is also proposed in which each mobile maintains its own thresholds, which may be adaptively changed to maintain a call connection that is otherwise likely to fail
