Abstract :
The environmentally constrained economic dispatch problem is a multi-objective nonlinear optimization problem with constraints. Until recently, this problem has been addressed by considering economic and emission objectives separately or as a weighted sum of both objectives. This paper presents a general formulation of the combined economic and emission dispatch (CEED) problem. It finds out a solution which gives a balanced result between emission and cost of generation. An efficient and reliable particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm based technique is used for solving the emission and economic dispatch problem. The results are obtained for a test system with three generating units. The performance of the PSO is compared with tabu search-II and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). The results clearly show that the proposed method gives better optimal solution as compared to the other methods
