Abstract
In this paper we present the application of an improved version of the niched Pareto genetic algorithm (NPGA), a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA), to the multi-objective design of power distribution systems. This algorithm has been developed to obtain a set of feasible solutions by considering some technical constraints. The problem of design is formulated to select the optimum size and layout of substations and feeders. It can be expressed as a multi-objective optimization problem minimizing two objectives: cost and non-supplied energy (NSE). The results confirm the suitability of the NPGA algorithm to the power distribution systems design
