Abstract
Modern health care devices require the skills of qualified persons who are able to select, operate, repair and maintain the complex equipment. The biomedical engineering education programs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aim for graduate trained national manpower to handle these jobs, and gradually to replace foreign manpower. Two relevant undergraduate programs are described. The first program started in 1981 as an optional program within the Electrical Engineering Department at King Abdul Aziz University (KAAU). The second program started in 1984 as an independent biomedical instrumentation program at King Saud University (KSU). The two programs are briefly outlined.<>
