Abstract :
Mobile phones have become essential part of our life in the last 15 years. All mobile phones have a lot of common features, but their individual style or design, and special functions make these devices salable. However there is an important accessory - the charger - which does the same task to reach the same goal from the beginning, but on a wide range of implementation. A few years ago, GSMA (in partnership with the leading manufacturers) started a program to achieve a brand independent standard for a Universal Charging Solution (UCS) for new mobile phones. This paper will try to analyze this ongoing procedure from the aspect of System Engineering, using SIMILAR. It presents the compatibility and ecodesign problems to solve or reduce with UCS, introduces the main parts of the standard, investigates some alternative conceptions, and describes the connection possibilities to other systems. It also explains the current status of the project, the expected influences and gives some proposals to the future.
