Abstract
PTB operates an optical wavelength/frequency standard by stabilizing the frequency of a laser to the intercombination transition 3P1-1S0 of laser cooled ballistic atomic 40Ca at λ≅657 nm. The uncertainty of the standard was evaluated by the use of two independent systems. After comparison of the optical frequency with the Cs atomic clock the frequency is determined to be 455 986 240 494.13 (12) kHz
