Abstract
In VANETs, the carry-and-forward strategy had been adopted to overcome uneven distribution of vehicles. If next vehicle located in the transmission range, the vehicle forwards packets; otherwise carries packets until meeting. The carry is almost occurring in sparse traffic road segment, and long carry distance has long end-to-end packet delay. Likewise the dense condition also could have long delay, what with queuing delay. Therefore, the proposed intersection-based routing protocol can find a minimum delay routing path in various vehicle densities. Moreover, vehicles reroute each packet according to real-time road conditions in each intersection, and the packet routing at intersection is depending on the move direction of next vehicle. Finally the simulation results that the proposed IBR protocol has less end-to-end delay in contrast with VADD and GyTAR.
