Abstract
What does it really mean to educators in the classroom to place the learner in the center? Creating learner-centered classrooms begin with a teaching philosophy that is student centered. Attitude is more critical than methodology. Learner-centered instruction follows from fundamental beliefs in and desires to improve learning opportunities for students. Instruction is developed with the learners´ needs, questions, experiences and reflections in mind. The instruction engages the students in holistic, meaningful and relevant activities. Five strategies to move closer to student centeredness are explained in this paper.
