Abstract
Summary form only given. When thermal lensing is fully taken into account in a Nd:YVO/sub 4/ laser then high pumping efficiency and slope efficiency as high as 688 percent is achieved for the IR light. The temperature at the center of the gain medium is measured to be 85.3 C when pumped at a power density of 13.7 MW/m2. The temperature relaxation time is also determined to be 5.5 min.
