Abstract
Summary form only given. We have demonstrated a wavelength-swept Er/sup 3+/-doped fiber laser (WSFL) that produces self-starting mode-locked pulses without the help of a frequency shifted feedback. A wide wavelength scan range over 28 nm with a linewidth of 0.09 nm has been demonstrated. The WSFL can be used as an effectively broadband source and has recently been applied to demodulation of fiber Bragg grating sensor arrays.
