Abstract
The numerical procedure for deriving the effective dielectric constants εeff is given. The results of εeff are then computed for the non-uniform air-ice and snow-water spheres. The results are also compared with other mixing formulae and models. In the final part of the paper the dielectric constants from the non-uniformly melting hydrometeors and other mixing models, along with the model of the melting layer, are used to reproduce the radar profiles of the bright-band in comparison with the Precipitation Radar measurements at a frequency of 13.8 GHz onboard the Tropical Rain Measurement Mission
