Abstract :
San Jose State University is initiating a new undergraduate BS degree program in Microelectronics Process Engineering. The program is being developed by a team of faculty in chemical and materials engineering. The program is designed to provide the broad engineering fundamentals expected of any undergraduate engineering degree, as well as specific science, process design and process engineering of microelectronics, information storage, and other technologies which rely on thin film and surface fabrication techniques. Graduates of the program would be positioned for entry level process engineering jobs in the semiconductor and related industries which rely on similar process technology. The new program is built on the success of two courses that have been developed over the past three years, one in electronic materials processing and the other in electronic materials properties. The program is designed to have a strong industrial component both in support of the laboratory and in the senior design projects
