Abstract :
This paper presents the usage of decentralized observers in continuous moving webs. First the theory of centralized and decentralized observers and the differences of both kinds observers are shown. This is followed by the usage of decentralized observers shown by Wolfermann. In continuous moving webs the relevant disturbances are two unknown parameters causing errors in the estimated web forces. The first one is the modulus of elasticity, the second one is the friction in the subsystem. Unfortunately these two parameters act on the same location (balance of the torques) in a subsystem. To solve this problem in the observers, a new adaptive decentralized observer is presented in this paper.
