Abstract
A code-book approach is developed for glottal-pulse modeling of speech. The authors extend previous methods of glottal pulse analysis, suggesting a practical scheme suitable for speech coding and compression. The scheme is based on using a codebook of glottal pulse signals, thereby allowing for efficient minimization of an objective measure of distortion, consistent with ordinary CELP (code-excited linear prediction) analysis. Subjective and objective quality, as well as analysis complexity, compare favorably with established methods, such as stochastic 1024-CELP coders. Moreover, the proposed coder is robust
