Abstract :
A new type of lateral electron field emission display device is presented. The phosphor anode of this new device is integrated into the overall structure. No separate alignment of a face plate is required. Many of the known problems associated with other field emissive displays are eliminated by the new design. These include problems associated with spacer columns, creating and maintaining a high vacuum, dimensional control and alignment, and emitter reliability. The new structure utilizes well controlled, standard semiconductor fabrication processes. The new structure provides a robust alternative for ultrahigh resolution displays
