Abstract :
The problem of tracking meteorological objects is of great importance, since it gives information useful to perform more accurate forecasting, especially on a short-term basis (nowcasting). Recently a feature point based tracking algorithm has been introduced, using the modal matching (MM) approach to the problem of matching features between frames. This approach allows sensible results at the expense of a heavy computational cost, which may in some cases make real-time processing troublesome. The authors present some results obtained replacing MM with a simpler (and thus faster) modal approach, named generalized symmetry axes
