Abstract :
SMART server is a system specialized in Internet-based cyber communities in Korea with the high-performance Internet-based communication infrastructure, high quality of wireless communication environment, and high degree of Internet usage and developed by ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute). Specially, SMART server has some NS (network & storage) cards that can accelerate network speed of application such as contents streaming. Each NS card has two network ports and SCSI controller for disks. So, NS card reads data from disk and send it to network port directly almost without using of CPU and main memory. The model of SMART server at the view of disk is shared-nothing. In such shared-nothing, one of the serious problem is hot content handling. So, SMART server supports replication technology to solve it. Replicating data increases the service availability, fault-tolerance and quality of service (QoS) of distributed multimedia systems. But, normal replication technology has a waste of storage resource. In this paper, we propose the replication method saving storage resource. This is the partial content replication technology that doesn´t increase of user delay and save storage resource
