Abstract :
This paper provides a detailed description of the steady state performance of this system, based on a standard gas turbine prime mover. Economic considerations are discussed, as is dynamic performance and speed regulation. This topology would provide a definite advantage in reducing the amount of power electronic converter requirements, and eliminating the converter losses in the main power flow path from the generator to the drive motor. EMI and similar issues involved in switching multi-megawatt power levels would also be alleviated.
