  • Abstract
Summary form only given. We have extended the theory of Kerr-lens mode-locked (KLM) lasers by introducing a new soft-delta parameter for characterizing system behavior. This parameter takes into account soft aperturing caused by the nonuniform transverse gain profile in an end-pumped medium as well as the effect of a real Gaussian aperture placed in the cavity to simulate the role of a hard aperture. The goal is to make the numerical model as realistic and prescriptive as possible in order to improve experimental diode-pumped KLM lasers in terms of output power and reliability.
