Abstract
Echo return loss and impulse response are important characteristics of an echo path for the design of echo cancellers. This paper presents methodology used to measure the impulse response and the echo return loss of an echo path. The design of the signal is described. We then present the measurement results from over 100 samplings of long distance calls which were made within North America. The measurement results are compared with the study reported by AT&T in 1972
