Abstract :
A novel two-stage image compression scheme is proposed. In the first stage, differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) is used to decorrelate the raw image data. Next, an effective scheme based on the Huffman coding scheme is proposed to encode the residual image. According to the experimental results, the newly proposed scheme could significantly reduce the cost for the Huffman table while achieving high compression performance. In other words, the newly proposed scheme provides a good means for lossless compression of high-resolution images.
