Abstract :
This paper presents the concept of a "model-free" optimization system. The system is an adjunct to a plant control system. A case study involving a cement plant is used to demonstrate the system. The use of the system in the plant had two rewarding outcomes: a decrease in the cost of raw materials and an increase in production rate.
