Abstract
Summary form only given. Mode-locking of the ground-state transition in neodymium-doped laser hosts in combination with external frequency doubling is a possibility to realize a coherent blue-light source in the blue spectral region. Therefore we made an investigation of the mode-locking properties of a Nd:YAlO/sub 3/ laser on the ground-state transition. We observed nearly transform-limited solitonlike pulses as short as /spl Delta//spl tau/=1.9 ps. Soliton mode-locking was achieved by introducing a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) and a Gires-Tournois-Interferometer (GTI) into the cavity.
