Abstract :
Various mechanisms have been proposed to support mobility during handoff to increase the utilization of resources. However, once a resource request by these mechanisms is satisfied, the mobile terminal (MT) utilizes the resource without any consideration for the speed of the MT and the distance of the overlapped region. Within the scope of the mechanisms, if a MT requests a resource grant to a new cell, the rejection of the new handoff request is virtually unavoidable. In this paper, we show that if the speed of MT is sufficiently slow over the distance in the concerned overlapped region, a resource request for another MT is allowed during the delay of a new request, providing more efficient resource management during handoff. The proposed scheme in this paper considers the speed of a MT and the distance in overlapped region during handoff and hence shows that not only can the utilization of wireless resources improve, but the handoff blocking probability reduces as well when adapting this scheme
