Abstract :
An extended model of flow orientation has been developed for analyzing the in-plane anisotropy of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. The velocity potential is derived for a system with a two-dimensional fluid and a sink, which represent the monolayers at the air-water interface and the substate, respectively. The rotary motion of this field is examined assuming a Bingham plasticity. The angular distribution function obtained is found to explain satisfactorily the anisotropic absorbance and ESR line shape of the mixed LB films of a merocyanine and a fatty acid, indicating the possibility of controlling the in-plane anisotropy in LB films by adjusting the values of parameters involved in the model.<>
