Abstract
Communication during the disaster is a difficult issue. The disaster may be natural like tsunami, hurricane, cyclones or man-made like terrorist attack, massive power failure or wartime scenario. The high bandwidth supporting technology is evolving very fast, leading us from 4G/LTE to 5G/cognitive devices´ regime. Unfortunately all these technology are badly dependent on the infrastructure. In case the infrastructure is collapsed or handicapped, communication is no more possible. As a result disaster time critical communication is also very vital with very limited data (like message or signal etc.). This paper proposes a novel handheld mobile device that utilizes 1) the existing GNSS location service via Beidou and 2) MANET routing via OLSR protocol. The additional sms feature offered by Beidou enables the proposed device to communicate during emergency rescue operation to find affected people´s location and information. Simulation in an assumed test scenario shows suitability of the proposed device.
