Abstract :
A new hierarchical image registration algorithm is presented which achieves subpixel accuracy for images with both translational and rotational movements. This wavenumber domain algorithm is efficient compared to the conventional approaches based on interpolation or correlation in spatial or frequency domain. In addition, the proposed approach is robust and can achieve subpixel accuracy registration even when the images contain aliasing errors due to undersampling. This hierarchical searching method which involved coarse and fine search further enhances the convergence time of registration. The accuracy of the proposed approach is demonstrated through computer simulations for different types of images
