Abstract
This paper presents a new control scheme for the sinusoidally operated PM synchronous machines. The control concept incorporates the mechanical motion equation into the observer for rotor position estimation. Using the low-cost Hall-effect sensors to assist a simplified observer, the proposed control algorithm guarantees the performance of the PM synchronous machine the same as that achieved by the system with an expensive optical encoder or resolver
