Abstract
The determination of the potential distribution on the surface of the polluted insulators is essential for the study of the flashover phenomena. Several mathematical and experimental approaches were proposed to facilitate the study of the polluted insulators which have a very complex geometry and which are subjected to a non uniform pollution. In order to contribute to this study, we propose in this paper a new approach to model the real insulators whatever the complexity of their profiles. We made a comparative study between a disc insulator and its open model by comparing the total resistance recorded by experimental measurements and calculated. To validate our approach, we could determine the potentials on the surface of a real insulator with sheds of the anti fog type
