Abstract :
Power System Stabilizer (PSS) can enhance the power system stability through providing the sufficient damping and STATic synchronous COMpensator (STATCOM) can regulate the bus voltage and increase the stability of electrical power System. Hence, this paper concentrates in designing these components and to use intelligent optimization techniques such Particle Swarm Optimization Technique, Tabu Search and Differential Evolution approach to tune the controllers´ parameters, design an intelligent controller for STATCOM to enhance the power system stability. All of these systems are modeled and simulated in MATLAB. The success of the developed intelligent techniques and designed controllers is then evaluated using time-domain nonlinear simulations.
