Abstract
It is well known that Permanent Split Capacitor Motors (PSCM) is a highly reliable motor with smoother operation and longer life. PSCM are unidirectional, which means they are designed to rotate in one direction. This paper elaborates a novel speed control technique using direct power converter in which motor speed variation and the change in direction of motor rotation can be achieved. The direct power converter used is matrix converter. Using DSP based control system, depending on the motor control algorithms used, the speed of PSCM can be controlled in both forward and reverse directions. Experimental results will be presented to justify the analysis.
