Summary form only given. The authors results demonstrate that Er/sup 3+/:BaLu/sub 2/F/sub 8/ is an efficient laser crystal for generation of 3-/spl mu/m laser radiation by the /sup 4/I/sub 11/2/ intermanifold laser transition.
