  • Abstract
In this work, the glass forming ability and magnetic properties of Fe72-xCoxY4B20 (x = 10, 20, 30, 38, 46) and Fe72-yNiyY6B22 (y= 5, 10, 15, 20) bulk metallic glasses are investigated. XRD diffractometer is used for structural characterization of the samples and their thermal properties are measured by differential calorimetry. Addition of Co enhances the glass forming ability of the Fe-Y-B alloy while the Ni addition deteriorates. The replacement of Fe by Co or Ni leads to a decrease of crystallization temperature from 575°C (Fe76Y4B20) to 574°C (46 at%Co) and from 657°C (Fe72Y6B22) to 562°C(20 at% Ni), respectively. The saturation magnetization decreases from 1.6 T to 1.47 and from 1.5 T to 0.95 T as the Co or Ni replacement increases to 46 at% and 20 at%, respectively.
