Abstract
Permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) is often linked to a PWM rectifier in order to provide a dc power supply. When such a system is used for variable speed applications, it is desirable to extend the operation speed range. Since the induced voltage of the PMSG increases with the speed, it is proposed in this paper to utilize flux weakening control to restrict the PMSG output voltage at high speed, and consequently increase the maximum operation speed. Implementation and analytical model of the flux weakening control are described, and analysis results obtained in the Matlab/Simulink environment are presented, validating the feasibility of the proposed control strategy.
