  • Abstract
A relay solution to link-blockage problem in 60GHz communication systems is proposed based on codebook beam switching. The directional link is easily blocked by a moving person and furniture, which is regarded as one of the severe problems in 60GHz systems. Beam switching mechanism is feasible to resolve link-blockage by switching beams from the blocked path to an optimal relay path. Typically, the selection of backup relay path is crucial. Based on beam training and environment learning, a beam pair sequence list (BPSL) for relay paths is proposed for accurate selection of relay path and rapid switching of communication link. The generation and evaluation of beam pair sequence are presented. Based on BPSL, a complete and closed-form link switching process is developed. Theoretical analysis and numerical results show that for IEEE 802.15.3c indoor channel model CM1, the proposed scheme has good performance in complexity, applicability and system throughput.
