Abstract :
In this paper, the performance of network coding in underwater acoustic networks is evaluated. The objective of this study is to determine the suitability of using network coding for error recovery in the high error rate underwater acoustic channel; and if so, what parameter settings should be used for a given network so that it can achieve the desired performance. Our study of network coding is conducted independently of Medium Access Control (MAC) and routing protocols. Thus, the results and findings can be applied and used to understand underwater network coding´s behavior in a more generic network scenario.
