Abstract :
Due to the deterioration of the environment caused by massive use of fossil fuels, modern society demands alternative, clean and inexhaustible sources. The energy sustainability shall combine economic prosperity, social sensitivity and environment protection, fulfilling the comfort demand of a growing population. The nascent industry of producing energy from the ocean waves is running at full speed, with significant new developments coming up. As a result, there is a growing need for evaluation, verification and certification to be implemented by third parties. The main objective of certification consists in reaching the maximum safety from conceptual phase until decommissioning. Moreover, this process could also affect the economic feasibility of the project as it is a common requirement to obtain grants or reasonable insurance premiums. In this context, the present paper aims at offering a proposal of certification process for two types of wave energy conversion technologies: proven and new.
