Abstract :
Flux-reversal machine (FRM) is a new brushless doubly salient permanent magnet machine proposed with the same aim of combining the advantages of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) and the permanent magnet brushless DC motor (BLDCM). This paper analyzes the influence of PWM modes on the iron loss of the FRM using a two dimensional time-stepped voltage source finite-element method (FEM). The iron loss is calculated from the time variation of the magnetic field distribution. To produce the PWM pulse patterns and perform the experiment, the digital signal processor (DSP) installed controller and the prototype FRM with an Nd-Fe-B magnet are built.
