Abstract
The magnetic field in a toroidal structure has a three dimensional distribution. Energy and losses calculation in this particular structure makes necessary the use of 3D techniques that accounts for all 3D effects. The calculation of the energy and losses is needed in order to obtain any transformer model. This work presents a procedure that allows the calculation of energy and losses in toroidal structures using 2D approaches. This procedure accounts for 3D effects, solving each toroidal structure by means of two different analyses but using 2D finite element analysis (FEA) solvers. The main advantages of this procedure are the simplicity in the FEA problem definition and the great reduction of the solution time and computer requirements. The methodology can also be used in another 3D structures like EE core shapes
