Abstract
Studies have shown that the absence of velocity at the free surface and some velocity at the lower part of molds are an important process condition for in-mold electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS). However, it is difficult to control the molten steel velocities of both inner part and meniscus. To address this concern, a new process with LMF in upper part and M-EMS in the lower part is proposed, where LMF is the level magnetic flow with DC magnetic field. Since LMF gives breaking force in the opposite direction of the flow and gives the breaking force in proportion to the velocity of the molten steel, the LMF is expected to stabilize the meniscus flow.
