Abstract
We describe a multi-rate, compact Hough transform for shape detection. The approach is novel in its application of 2D steerable shape kernels at each level of a multi-rate pyramidal decomposition to construct accumulator spaces. Employing such filtering operations can provide efficiency gains in searching for particular closed shapes in digital images, whilst maintaining code simplicity and freedom from early thresholding operations
