Abstract
This work is aimed to determine the influence of the interfacial atoms on the magnetic moments of the Co clusters. X-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements have been performed on the Co L2,3 edges of Co5Cu95 granular alloys annealed at 300, 400, 450, 500 and 550°C. These experiments were performed at 40 K and under an applied magnetic field of 1.4 T. The total magnetic moment increases to the value of bulk fcc Co, which is consistent with the progressive formation of superparamagnetic nanoclusters from the atoms diluted into the Cu matrix having a negligible paramagnetic contribution.
