Abstract
A method to fabricate head-flyable alumina nanohole patterned media is reported. Alumina nanoholes are formed by DC anodization of Al layer (500 nm) with anodizing voltage of 25 V. The pore diameter is widened by dilute phosphoric acid in order for Co to fill easily into these holes by AC electrodeposition. Surface polishing of the media is done to smooth the surface and carbon is used as a protective coating layer which is lubricated and tape burnished to assure head flying. The write-read characteristics are measured by Guzik system with latest merge type magnetic head. Results show that detailed GMR readback signals show correlation with the nanohole array location.
