Abstract :
Anglo Platinum Limited is currently the world´s largest Platinum Group Metal producer and has a large Platinum Group Metal (PGM) exploration program worldwide. Remote sensing techniques are used at every stage of the exploration cycle; from target generation through to project feasibility. Satellite imagery is used in all facets of the campaign; however, many other remote sensing techniques are also commonly employed. Among these are airborne techniques such as aerial photography, magnetics, radiometrics, gravity, electro-magnetics and gradiometer surveys. On the earth´s surface 2D and 3D seismic surveys are utilised extensively to map underground structure, while at the borehole level downhole probes are used to image features in the borehole wall. At every stage of the exploration program remote sensing plays an important role; whether it is satellite derived or non-satellite derived remote sensing data.
