Abstract :
A magnetic characteristic measurement, a motor characteristic prediction, and an experimental evaluation of motors using various magnetic materials were performed to identify features of various magnetic materials, which are used in a motor core as a magnetic material. The results are as follows: (1) Motor with amorphous metal sheet showed very high motor efficiency, with its high permeability and extremely low core loss. (2) Motor with soft magnetic composite core showed the, comparable efficiency to that of a motor using electrical steel sheet, despite of relatively low permeability and similar core loss to low-grade electrical steel sheet. By adding features such as using in high frequency applications and designing a three-dimensional structure, this material is expected to offer higher performance than that is possible with electrical steel sheets. (3) It has been shown that the performance of the various magnetic materials used in motors can be predicted with a high degree of accuracy based on their measured magnetic properties.
