Abstract :
The effect of mode filter on the uniformity of insertion loss of a 1 × 4 optical splitter is investigated by using Method of Lines. Simulations are performed at 1310, 1490 and 1550 nm on the splitter designed with and without the mode filter. From the analysis on the simulation results, it is shown that the mode filter is very effective in improving uniformity of the insertion loss of a 1 × 4 optical splitter. To verify MOL accuracy, fields at the output of splitter are compared with the propagated fields obtained from well established numerical method FDBPM. It is found the result by MOL shows good agreement with the result from FDBPM.
