Abstract :
The results of a plan to ensure computer protocol efficiency on satellite networks and to quantify the performance are presented. Measurements were performed to validate the performance requirements specified in CCITT Recommendation X.135 for international virtual circuits that include at least one satellite link and to demonstrate the effectiveness of satellite circuits for carrying packet-switched services. From the results, it is clear that the delay and throughput performance of international satellite link carrying packet-switched services is well within the requirements specified in CCITT Recommendation X.135. The results show that with operational parameters suitably chosen, satellite links provide extremely good performance
