Abstract :
Summary form only given. Here we believe we report the first distributed feedback (DFB) lasers employing a broadened-waveguide (BW) epistructure designed to minimize propagation loss, as necessary to maximize power. Using a broad-area laser of 200-/spl mu/m width, a similar BW design was reported to emit 4.6 W at 1.55 /spl mu/m.
