Abstract
Summary form only given. We report a novel tunable laser configuration using a commercial semiconductor taper amplifier and a fast-scanning external-grating mirror cavity. By designing and controlling the shape of the reflective stripes of the end mirror, this configuration allows programmable wavelength scanning at any given function. The laser configuration is based on the dual-wavelength cavity. We used a tapered GaAlAs laser diode amplifier as the gain element.
